Race HQ
Sandy Sports Centre, Engayne Avenue SG19 1BL
Please note, this year’s HQ is open-air in the rear car park of the sports centre.
We encourage all entrants to pick up numbers, drop off any bags and then proceed to either the track or recreation ground to warm up.

The course

Click the thumbnail above to view the 10-mile race route – maps will also be on display at HQ.
The route has been measured and certified (copies available at HQ on the day) – it is the same course as run in recent years.
There were plans to use a revised finish on Sunderland Road Recreation Ground, but local building works that were necessitating this have now been postponed until after our race date. Apologies for the late change – word of this only emerged three weeks before race day!

Registration
Please allow plenty of time to collect your number on the day.
We recommend arriving no later than 8.30am.
The race cannot be delayed for late arrivals, and no entries will be allowed on the day.
NEW: Number pick-up is available on Saturday 1 April, from 2pm-4pm, in the rear Sandy Sports Centre car park that will house Race HQ.

Parking
Because of a local funfair accounting for the site we used as our overflow area last year, our on-site parking capacity this time around is extremely limited and strictly first-come, first-served.
The main car park is at Sandy Secondary School (satnav postcode: SG19 1BL).
Off-road car parking is also available in Sandy town centre, but please note this is approx 15 mins from race HQ.
Suggestions for on-street parking will be provided in your race information packs.
Please do not park on Sunderland Road – this is part of the course.
This year more than any other, we encourage car-sharing if at all possible!
Bike racks are available at Race HQ.

Facilities – bag drop and toilets
Please arrive dressed to race – no changing facilities are provided.
A supervised bag drop is available but please note this is outdoors – in the event of adverse weather all bags will be under tarpaulins for the duration of the race.
Please do not leave any valuables.
To use the bag drop, take a luggage tag, write your race number on it, and leave your bag with a volunteer.
To collect your bag, you must show your race number, and this must match the number on the bag being collected.
Please do not enter the baggage area itself – be patient with those manning the bag drop.
If you expect to need to leave in a hurry following the race, we recommend leaving your bag in your vehicle if possible.
Bag drop is for bags only – no loose items or garments please.
The race organisers accept no liability for losses or damage incurred to property left at the bag drop.

Portable toilets are at Race HQ. Queues are likely and do please factor in enough time to get to the start.
There are no toilets at the start itself, and FYI men: any al fresco improvisation to get round that fact is a disqualification offence!
We have had complaints in previous years after people failed to note this instruction.
The race is only able to go ahead with the support of local residents and businesses. Please respect them by using the toilets provided.

Refunds/deferrals/transfers
Refunds are only available in the event of the race being cancelled.
Due to substantially delayed building works around our usual HQ and finish, no Sandy 10 is planned for 2024 – as a result deferrals are not being offered this year.
The last date for entry transfers was 2 March 2023.
Entries are closed and the entry list is now final.
Between now and race day, the only amendments we will accept to the entry database are updates to the emergency contact and medical conditions fields.

Race rules
The minimum age for entrants is 17.
No headsets or headphones, and please note this includes bone conduction headsets, are allowed.
We reserve the right to disqualify any runner spotted by officials and marshals, or in any photos post-race, wearing any of these items.
Run on the left-hand side of the road unless otherwise directed by the course marshals. The roads are open throughout the race.
Runners are welcome to run in fancy dress, but because of the open roads, costumes substantially increasing your “wingspan” are not permitted.
Please also ensure that the sight and hearing you have available to you are not adversely affected by your outfits!
There is a 2hr 15m time limit for the 10-mile race. Marshals, signage and the finish area will be withdrawn and taken down after this time – this is due to agreements we have with local authorities to minimise disruption in the local area and to honour prior warning given to residents and businesses.

Refreshments
The fabulous Deja Brew Coffee Box will be at race HQ offering a selection of drinks and snacks. Contactless payments are accepted.

First Aid
Hearts Services are once again our designated medical cover.
Please add any relevant medical conditions to your entry form – this can help to inform our first aid personnel.
If you require medical assistance during the race, please inform a course marshal.

The 10-mile finish
A very changeable timetable for local building works have required us to flit between our usual finish and a revised, on-park finish.
Please note: we are now back to the traditional finish line on the bridleway next to Sunderland Road Recreation Ground!
This is exceptionally good news in light of recent wet weather which has made the park soft and soggy, and is taking time to dry out.
After crossing the finish line please stay in the order you crossed the line in the funnel.
